Limited Submissions

Funding agencies (sponsors) sometimes place limits on the number of letters of intent, pre-proposals or proposals that any one university may submit in response to a funding opportunity announcement (commonly referred to as a Request for Proposals – RFP). The following policy is designed to support an equitable review process while preventing any submission disqualifications due to submissions from The University of Alabama beyond the allowed number.

Missing Announcements: Despite the best efforts of OSP, not every funding opportunity may be identified. Anyone who wishes to apply to a limited submission opportunity that is not posted below or included in the link to the comprehensive listing in Pivot should email the Limited Submission Coordinator (Angie Shotts at ashotts@research.ua.edu) with the PI’s name, name of the grant competition and a link to the program announcement.

The only information needed to reply to the RFI is an email stating interest and a clear indication of the PI. October 13, 2017, Second Friday in October annually Only one Thematic Collections Networks (TCN) proposal may be submitted by any one organization as the lead organization. OMH, Office of Minority Health Empowered Communities for a Healthier Nation To determine if there is a need for an internal down-select competition a Request for Interest (RFI) is being conducted. Faculty interested in submitting a proposal should email Angie Shotts and the PI’s ADR by 1:00 p.m. June 20, 2017. The email should clearly state who is the PI for the project and if the project focus is opioid epidemic, childhood/adolescent obesity, or serious mental illness. August 1, 2017 OMH will consider only one application per organization for each focus area. Remains open for opioid epidemic and serious mental illness projects.

Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (P30), RFA-AG-18-007 To determine if there is a need for an internal down-select competition a Request for Interest (RFI) is being conducted. Faculty interested in submitting a proposal should email Angie Shotts and the PI’s ADR by 1:00 p.m. June 27, 2017. NSF, National Science Foundation Big Data Regional Innovation Hubs: Establishing Spokes to Advance Big Data Applications (BD Spokes), NSF 17-546 A Statement of Interest is due by 4:30 p.m. April 3, 2017. Email Angie Shotts and your Associate Dean for Research if interested in submitting a proposal. September 18, 2017 An organization may participate as submitting organization (or, in the case of collaborative proposals, as the lead organization) for at most one proposal responsive to this solicitation.
Proposal submissions are limited to 1 per organization (except as non-lead in a collaborative proposal) to maintain a balanced geographic representation of the Regional Hubs and Spokes program and to increase diversity of participating institutions.

NEA, National Endowment for the Arts Art Works and Challenge America Faculty interested in submitting a proposal should email a statement of interest to their Associate Dean for Research and Angie Shotts by 4:30 p.m. January 13, 2017. Multiple Deadlines:

  • Art Works (February 16 and July 13, 2017)
  • Art Works: Creativity Connects (May 4, 2017)
  • Challenge America (April 13, 2017).
An organization may submit only one application under these FY 2018 Art Works guidelines, with few exceptions as listed below:

Applicants to the Media Arts discipline at the July 13, 2017, deadline: An organization may submit more than one application in the Art Works category through the Media Arts discipline at the July 13, 2017, deadline.

Applicants for a Creativity Connects project: An organization may submit one additional application in the Art Works category for a Creativity Connects project.

If an organization applies to the Challenge America category, it may not submit another application to the Art Works category except for a Creativity Connects project.

NSF, National Science Foundation ADVANCE: Increasing the Participation and Advancement of Women in Academic Science and Engineering Careers (ADVANCE), NSF 16-594 Faculty interested in submitting a proposal should email a statement of interest to Angie Shotts and the PI’s Associate Dean for Research by 4:30 p.m. September 19, 2016. Multiple deadlines, please see solicitation for a complete list. The first due date is a required Letter of Intent on December 14, 2016 for the Partnership track. Limit on Number of Proposals per Organization: 1 One for IT-Preliminary, Institutional Transformation (IT), or Adaptation; no limit for Partnership, ADVANCE Resource and Coordination Network, and ADVANCE Longitudinal Evaluation:

IT-Preliminary: Non-profit academic institutions are allowed to submit one preliminary proposal in the competition.

IT and Adaptation: Non-profit academic institutions are allowed to submit one proposal in the competition to either the IT (if invited after the preliminary proposal stage) or the Adaptation track but not both.

•Non-profit, non-academic organizations are allowed to submit one Adaptation proposal in the competition and may also be a partner on Partnership and/or ADVANCE Resource and Coordination Network proposals.

•A non-profit academic institution or non-profit, non-academic organization may be a partner on multiple Partnership proposals in the same competition but lead only one and may also be a partner on an ADVANCE Resource and Coordination Network and/or an ADVANCE Longitudinal Evaluation proposal if appropriate.

NSF, National Science Foundation Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR), NSF 15-577 To determine if there is a need for an internal down-select competition a Request for Interest (RFI) is being conducted. Faculty interested in submitting a proposal should email Angie Shotts and the PI’s ADR by 1:00 p.m. June 29, 2017. The only information needed to reply to the RFI is an email stating interest and a clear indication of the PI. August 14 2017 In a single round of the CSBR competition, only one proposal may be submitted from any individual collection within an organization. One organization may not submit more than three (3) proposals to any one CSBR competition. Remains open for 3 proposals
