Office for Research Development

The mission of the Office for Research Development (ORD) is to create programs that cultivate a strong research and creative culture. The services and programs provided by the ORD are designed to advance the research community and encourage cross-disciplinary research, scholarly activities, and creative endeavors at The University of Alabama. These programs include networking sessions that foster collaboration, resources to locate external funding, internal funding opportunities, and professional development workshops.

The ORD is always looking for ways to better connect with our faculty and support the University’s research goals and objectives. Please contact Angie Shotts with ideas and suggestions for networking activities and topics that will promote interdisciplinary research.

The ORD services include:

  • Managing the UA Limited Submission process when external agencies limit the number of proposals UA may submit for a specific funding opportunity
  • Coordinating the ORED Internal Funding Programs
  • Organizing Research Development workshops
  • Designing and coordinating interdisciplinary networking sessions
    • Providing initial coordination for additional sessions or meetings when a group requests continued collaboration and relationship building opportunities
  • Supporting faculty in their search for external funding through the use of Pivot, a comprehensive online database of available funding opportunities
  • Managing the ORED Listservs

The Office for Research Development (ORD) works closely with the Office for Proposal Development (OPD). The OPD can assist you with proposal editing services, monthly flights to D.C. to meet with Program Officers, and other proposal-related services.
