Research Grants Committee (RGC)
The Research Grants Committee, through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED), accepts proposals for RGC research grants each year from full-time tenured, tenured track, clinical and clinical track UA faculty. The proposal submission window is November 15 – December 18, 2017 for 2018 funding. All proposals must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. December 18, 2017. The start date for FY 2018 RGC awards is May 15, 2018.
Only one proposal, as PI or co-PI, will be considered for funding per investigator during any proposal submission period.
Former grant recipients are ineligible (as either PI or co-PI) for the same or lower Level award for three (3) years following the expiration of either a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 award. For example, if a faculty member received an award in May 2013 and their project ended in May 2015, a new proposal for the same funding Level may be submitted in December 2017 for May 2018 funding. RGC grants awarded prior to 2015 (i.e., 2014 and before) are the equivalent of a Level 1 (Standard RGC Project) award.
The RGC will have three (3) funding Levels across three (3) funding Areas:
Area A- Physical and Biological Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering
Area B- Social and Behavioral Sciences
Area C- Arts and Humanities
Level 1 – RGC Seed Project (for projects up to $6,000.)
Level 2 – RGC Collaborative Project (minimum project total is $25,000. May request $12,500 to $75,000.)
Level 3 – RGC Equipment Project (minimum project total is $50,000. May request $25,000 to $100,000.)
Details of the procedures, priorities and restrictions used by the Research Grants Committee in awarding research funds are detailed in the RGC Instructional Manuals.
